Individuals with Parkinson’s disease (PD) suffer from motor symptoms that adversely affect their daily activities and quality of life. Effective physical rehabilitation can slow the progression of these symptoms. Providing such rehabilitation in an accessible and affordable manner is challenging due to person- and system-level barriers to healthcare services. Remote, technology-based rehabilitation programs could reduce therapy costs and enhance training accessibility. Yet, remotely assessing and guiding motions and providing hands-on assistance can be difficult for physical therapists, which limits the effectiveness of remote rehabilitation for PD patients. This study's primary objective is to develop and evaluate a haptic (relating to the sense of touch) remote rehabilitation system for PD patients. Your participation will require 2 sessions per week for 8 weeks. Each session will take up to one hour. During your sessions, you will be asked to perform various exercise movements. Some sessions will also require you to fill out questionnaires. Results from this study will support the development of Parkinson’s Disease rehabilitation using a remote haptic device. Note that your participation is voluntary, and you can choose not to participate in the study at any time.
